Portrait and Fabric Studies

As an artist, I am always looking to improve my skill ability, so I began this ongoing series of portrait and fabric studies. The subject is myself and I am exploring different ways for the subject to interact with the fabric and what each interaction may communicate to the viewer. The fabric can consume, comfort, and be enveloped by the subject, and also spread open and displayed. The white fabric juxtaposes the black slip worn by the subject to help create balance and tension. The fabric caresses the subject and creates textures, patterns, and folds as it interacts with the subject, creating movement and interest. The subject also may address the viewer directly as if caught in the act or look toward the fabric as the fabric, instead, addresses the viewer. Each piece measures 18x24 inches and each is rendered in graphite.
